PhD training

Upcoming activities

 
During winter 2010 the PBL and Sustainability PhD network will be organized and supported by means of ICT.
In 2011 the 5 ECTS course on PBL and Sustainability revised and carried out.
In 2011 a book is prepared by staff based on the review of PhD students essay and supplementary writings. The book will be open source material available on this website and in written format.

Previous activities
 

May 2010 a 5 ECTS PhD course was arranged to bring doctoral students within the two fields of PBL and sustainability together. http://www.phd.plan.aau.dk/phd-courses/4698736  course resulted in essays on PBL and sustainability written by groups of PhD students from different academic backgrounds combining communication, sustainability and educational perspectives. The essays can be found here.
March 2010 a ½ day seminar was arranged for PhDs and staff members to a seminar titled: Interdisciplinarity in Sustainability Science. Lectures were given by Andrew Jamison and Petter Næss. The invitation and agenda can be found here.
In 2009 15 PhD students within the field of PBL or Sustainability were co-funded by the centre in order to encourage research within these fields and at the same time establish a collaborative community across the two fields of research.
In 2009 the centre co-sponsored a course on the researcher’s role in society, 20-22th of October. Lectures were given by Andrew Jamison on the subjects: The changing landscape of science, sustainability science, and different modes of learning.

In October 2010 a paper related to the project ”Curriculum development for Sustainability in a PBL environment” is presented at the ERSCP-EMSU conference 25-28st October, 2010, see http://www.erscp-emsu2010.org/. (Participants: Erik de Graaff & Jette E. Holgaard).

In 2009 the PBL-SUS was included in SEFI-taskforce http://www.sefi.be/?page_id=1688 chaired by Eric de Graaff (Participant: Eric de Graaff & Jette E. Holgaard)
The centre is represented in the board of the project for the Danish RCE-candidateship chaired by Jeppe Læssøe from the Danish Pedagogical University. See: http://www.dpu.dk/site.aspx?p=16051 (Participant: Jette Holgaard).
 
The Centre is working together with the UNESCO chair to development of course on PBL and Sustainability in the Master of PBL in Engineering and Science http://www.mpbl.aau.dk/ . As the MPBL is taking place in and intercultural learning environment, the integration of this course is expected to provide new opportunities for networking.
 
The Centre for PBL and Sustainability is represented in the board of the Confucius Institute for Innovation and Learning at Aalborg University (Participants: Martin Lehmann).

  • The centre was presented at the poster exhibition at the 3th European Fair for Education for Sustainable Development in Hamburg, the 28-30 October 2009 (Participant: Jette E. Holgaard) http://www.haw-hamburg.de/esd2009.html#c43562
  • The centre co-funded participation in the seminar in Salzburg (Austria) Greening the Minds: Universities, Climate Leadership and Sustainable Futures the 11-16 of July 2009, to discuss the future possibilities of a Sustainable Futures Academy (Participants Xiangyun Du & David Christensen).
  •  The centre hosted a visit from Professor Roger Hadcraft Melbourne University of Australia, to discuss the possibilities for collaboration http://me.edu.au/p/rhadgraft. (Participants: Anette Kolmos & Jette Holgaard)
  • The centre was host at a meeting related to the "Workshop on the Role of Higher Education in Africa: 'Triple Helix' Responses to Climate Change" arranged by Aalborg University (see http://www.ddrn.dk/index.php?side_id=320). The purpose was to discuss the potentials for collaboration with African partners in relation to PBL and sustainability. African partners from University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Kenyatta University, Kenya; University of Ghana, Ghana; and Muvek Development Solutions attended the meeting (Participants Mona Dahms, David Christensen, Søren Løkke
