Organisation

The centre for PBL and Sustainability is an integrated part of the UNESCO Chair organisation organised as a matrix organisation, covering three main activities:

  • Research projects
  • Ph.d. training
  • Networking
These activities are related to 5 different projects:
  1. PBL to educate engineers in disciplines related to the three pillars of sustainability (The programme approach).
  2. PBL to integrate sustainability into engineering & science curricula (The contextual approach).
  3. The appropriation of sustainability discourses into HE PBL institutions within the field of Engineering & Science (The sociological approach).
  4. PBL to enhance sustainability in education from primary school to the working life of scientists and engineers (The lifelong learning approach
  5. PBL to enhance ESD in developing countries (The development approach)
The management board coordinates the activities related to these themes.
The management board consists of members from Department of Development and Planning Aalborg University. In 2009-2012 the appointed members are Prof. Arne Remmen (Director), UNESCO chair Anette Kolmos, Prof. Per Christensen and Assoc. Prof. Jette Egelund Holgaard.

Three research groups from Department of Development and Planning represent the internal taskforce for the centre: Research group for Problem based learning in Technology and Society (PBL-artes); Research group for Sustainability, Innovation and Policy (SIP) and Research group for Environmental Assessment (EAG).
